The Voice of Southern Gospel in the Chattahoochee Valley” is truly Jim Foster. Businessman, visionary, supporter, promoter, and blessing are other words that accurately describe Jim to Southern Gospel artists and fans in Columbus, Phenix City and the surrounding communities.
Jim’s love for Southern Gospel music spans about 50 years. He has fond memories of singing in quartets and attending summertime music school when he was a teenager, learning four-part harmony and singing in churches in north Marion County. His late cousin, Arthur Lee Foster and The Singing Fosters were an inspiration to him as a young boy and were the foundation of his love and dedication to this “Music with a Message”.
In 1994, Jim was searching for a way to help support his friend, the late Tom Pair and Mr. Pair’s ministry, Fishers of Men and their Meals on Wheels program. Jim approached the owners of WPNX, a local AM station that, at the time, had an “oldies” format. His idea was to buy a block of time on Saturday mornings, sell his own advertising, and donate all the proceeds to Meals on Wheels.
Several months later, after much prayer and a desire to see Southern Gospel as a full time radio format in this area, Jim again approached the owners of WPNX with the idea to expand to a full time Southern Gospel station. Well, as Jim will tell you, “be careful what you pray for, you just might get it!” What began as a hobby has become another full time job for Jim Foster as he soon found himself on the air every morning as he has been for over 13 years. But more than that, it has become his passion. He will quickly tell you that his greatest rewards are those times he hears from listeners with stories about how a certain song touched them at just the right time or from the shut-ins who claim the radio station as their friend and sometimes only link to the outside world.
The Chattahoochee Valley area is blessed with an abundance of Southern Gospel Music talent and Jim Foster has always been a strong believer in and supporter of our many fine local artists. Over the years, Jim has had the privilege to meet and form lasting friendships with many of the national artists. However, he takes every opportunity to remind audiences that some of the best Southern Gospel music can be found in our own backyard. Throughout the years of his radio career, Jim has always strived to promote the local talent, devoting many morning programs to showcasing the ministries of these dedicated individuals. |

Some Funnies and Our Bozo Criminal Of The Day
Thursday 08-28-2008 6:13pm ET
COMEDY CALENDAR Actor David Soul turns 62 today. He was half of TV's "Starsky & Hutch." And if you actually remember which half, you might want to consider getting out more often.
The first jail sentence for speeding was pronounced in Newport, Rhode Island, on this date in 1904. Today, people don't go to jail for speeding. Today, people only go to jail for things like murder, armed robbery, or the most serious crime of all -- not being able to afford an attorney.
On this day in 1938 Northwestern University awarded Charlie McCarthy an honorary degree, Master of Innuendo and Snappy Comeback. Thus, Charlie became history's first ventriloquist's dummy to receive a master's degree. Master's degrees, of course, have been awarded to many regular dummies.
The world's first oil well came in on this day in 1959. Edwin Drake struck oil in Titusville, Pennsylvania, after drilling only 69 feet. Then, naturally, he capped the well and waited for the price to go up.
On this day in 1933 Tito Falconi flew a single engine plane upside-down 250 miles from St. Louis to Joliet, Illinois. Falconi said flying upside-down made him really airsick. He thought he'd never stop throwing down. Flying upside-down is a neat trick. I wish pigeons could learn it. Actually, flying upside-down is easy. What's hard is landing upside-down.
Nathaniel Briggs patented the washing machine on this date in 1787. Before that, people just wore dirty clothes. In those days, if you smelled good, you could get mugged for your underwear.
On this day in 1926 Emil Levsen, pitching for Cleveland against the Red Sox, became the first pitcher to win two complete games in one day. Today, pitchers have more modest goals. The ambition of the (Royals') pitchers isn't to win two games in one day -- it's to win two games in a season.
BOZO CRIMINAL
From Las Cruces, New Mexico, comes the story of bozo Gregory Randall who broke into the local library through a window. For unknown reasons, our bozo was not able to get out of the library the same way he came in, so he instead tried the front door. Unfortunately for our bozo, it was only after he had walked through the first set of doors and they had locked behind them that he noticed the front door leading outside was locked. Now, finding himself trapped like a rat in the entryway of the library, our bozo did the only thing he knew to do. He called 911 for help. The police were nice enough to come by and free him before locking him up.

Questions About the 2010 Olympics
Now that Vancouver has won the chance to host the 2010 Winter Olympics, people all over the world are asking questions. Believe it or not, these questions about Canada were posted on an International Tourism Website. (Frightening, isn't it?)
Q: I have never seen it warm on Canadian TV, so how do the plants grow? (UK) A. We import all plants fully grown and then just sit around and watch them die.
Q: Will I be able to see polar bears in the street? (USA) A: Depends on how much you've been drinking.
Q: I want to walk from Vancouver to Toronto--can I follow the Railroad tracks? (Sweden) A: Sure, it's only four thousand miles. Take lots of water.
Q: Is it safe to run around in the bushes in Canada? (Sweden) A: So it's true what they say about Swedes.
Q: It is imperative that I find the names and addresses of places to contact for a stuffed beaver. (Italy) A: Let's not touch this one.
Q: Are there any ATMs (cash machines) in Canada? Can you send me a list of them in Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Halifax? (UK) A: What did your last slave die of?
Q: Can you give me some information about hippo racing in Canada? (USA) A: A-fri-ca is the big triangle shaped continent south of Europe. Ca-na-da is that big country to your north...oh forget it. Sure, the hippo racing is every Tuesday night in Calgary. Come naked.
Q: Which direction is north in Canada? (USA) A: Face south and then turn 180 degrees. Contact us when you get here, and we'll send the rest of the directions.
Q: Can I bring cutlery into Canada? (UK) A: Why? Just use your fingers like we do.
Q: Can you send me the Vienna Boys' Choir schedule? (USA) A: Aus-tri-a is that quaint little country bordering Ger-man-y, which is...oh forget it. Sure, the Vienna Boys Choir plays every Tuesday night in Vancouver and in Calgary, straight after the hippo races. Come naked.
Q: Do you have perfume in Canada? (Germany) A: No, WE don't stink.
Q: I have developed a new product that is the fountain of youth. Can you sell it in Canada? (USA) A: Anywhere significant numbers of Americans gather.
Q: Can you tell me the regions in British Columbia where the female population is smaller than the male population? (Italy) A: Yes, gay nightclubs.
Q: Do you celebrate Thanksgiving in Canada? (USA) A: Only at Thanksgiving.
Q: Are there supermarkets in Toronto and is milk available all year round? (Germany) A: No, we are a peaceful civilization of Vegan hunter/gathers. Milk is illegal.
Q: I have a question about a famous animal in Canada, but I forget its name. It's a kind of big horse with horns. (USA) A: It's called a moose. It is tall and very violent, eating the brains of anyone walking close to it. You can scare it off by spraying yourself with human urine before you go out walking.
Q: Will I be able to speak English most places I go? (USA) A: Yes, but you will have to learn it first.

COMEDY CALENDAR FOR THURSDAY
On this date in 1890 Idaho became the 43rd U.S. state. If it weren't for Idaho, one of the most famous American phrases would be missing from the English language -- "You want fries with that?"
Dog Days begin today, but only in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere, it's the beginning of Penguin Days.
Today's exciting Dog Days trivia question: What are Dog Days anyway? Dog Days are the 40 hottest days of summer, an evil time when the sea boils, wine turns sour, dogs grow mad, and man suffers fevers, hysterics, frenzies, and electric bills.
Air Conditioning Appreciation Days begin today, a time to remember that, thanks to air conditioning, in the hot summer we can all wear sweaters to work. On this day in 1954 food rationing from World War II finally ended in Britain. To envision food rationing in the U.S., just imagine that instead of Democrats controlling Congress, we had Weight Watchers. Air Conditioning Appreciation Days begin today and continue through the hottest days of summer. Thanks to air conditioning we can breathe cool, clean air all summer long for only pennies per breath. July is National Baked Bean Month, Hot Dog Month, Spam Month, and Ice Cream Month. With a diet like that, it should also be PBA Month, everybody joins Pot Bellies Anonymous. Geraldo Rivera was born on this day in 1943. Mama Rivera knew Geraldo would make a great reporter. When he was only three days old, Geraldo did an expose on the nurse who changed his diaper -- and charged her with being involved in a cover-up.
TODAY'S BOZO CRIMINAL From New York comes the story of bozo Cyrus Ferry who was arrested by the cops when they noticed him making an illegal left turn. His problems increased when they discovered he was driving with a suspended license. Facing these misdemeanor charges, our bozo then made a big mistake. He tried to pay his bail with a counterfeit $50 bill. Bad idea. He's now been charged with possessing a forged instrument, a felony.
